MIX and NOVA Brekky presenters

Two breakfast teams, two different stations.. What is the difference in the way that they entertain their listeners? On Mix 101.1 their breakfast team consists of Tom, Brigitte and George. And on Nova 100 their team consists of Hughesy and Kate.

First off, if we have a listen to Mix 101.1, their conversation topics are very realistic and could be applied to anyone listening. For example, Brigitte talks about how she got lost on the roads of her home town and ending up in Preston. This reflects the down-to-earth realistic approach to the stories that are told by Brigitte. Having an idea of what the shows style of presenting is, we can then assume their target audience, which is for a more mature generation than that of Nova's audience.

Looking at the comedic elements in comparison to Nova's breakfast show, its clear that the laughing material that Mix provides sounds confident, mature, friendly and UN-offensive. Whereas Nova may provide a smarter, more clever approach to comedy as Hughsey is ambitiously comedic. However Hughsey being the comedian he is, will in fact affect the style of Novas breakfast show. His jokes are witty and invariably funny but may take a stake-out on a particular person. Take for example his jokes "Good luck to the Chimp-Woman", and if the listener is not careful this may sound to them like a funny thing to say, but effectively does not give the victim her sense of dignity being called a Chimp-Woman and this could result is complains from listeners or family, etc.

The presenters from both stations follow their respective target audience and for Nova and Mix, that is a very distinct difference. I believe that Mix, while having the more sensible approach to delivering their message, will not be as effective if the majority of radio listeners were not so politically correct but enjoyed a more casual and stake-out comedy, in which case Nova would be breakfast channel to tune in to.
