3AW and 774 radio

During 1030am till 12pm on Saturday Morning i had the chance to listen to both radio broadcasts on 3AW and 774 ABC. Both stations had the same issue regarding the bushfire tragedy and had similar ways of presenting on air. 3AW had a long period of time where they would receive callers who had an opinion or suggestion regarding the fires. This was a good opportunity for 3AW to answer their questions and really gain insider knowledge on peoples experiences whilst the announcer was able to provide professional insight for the callers. Examples of this would be when the caller would give their opinion on fire protection for housing, and the announcer either agreed with them or subtly gave HIS alternative opinion, which was conveyed to be the correct one. Overall, 3AW was very analytical asking questions with a Why, or How? This gave the station a serious, informative tone.

774 ABC, on the other hand, whilst having similarities was very formal compared to 3AW. Alot of their material was focused on promoting charities and foundations that assist in the bushfire appeal. The station didn't have nearly as many random callers, but instead the interviewees were selected, ambulance officers, news reporters and the Premier were just some of them.
774 also offered updates and focus on the Queensland floods, also holding interviews with some people from up north.

In conclusion 774 had more of a range of issues rather than focusing only on the bushfire, and this was a more formal tone. Where 3AW had a casual tone where conversations and sharing opinions would occur with bushfire victims and the announcer, allowing the listener to feel apart of their verbal jousting.
